Exclamation FAQ: Import from Thunderbird / Pocomail /INCREDIMAIL

FAQ: Import from Thunderbird / Pocomail/Incredimail

To import mailboxes from Thunderbird:

The Thunderbird Help file writes:

How do I export e-mail messages to another mail program or computer?
Thunderbird's mail files are in the standard plain text "mbox" format, which almost all mail programs can use or import. Many proprietary mail programs have a function to import from Eudora, which also uses the "mbox" format; this function should read your Mozilla mail files properly.

Your mail files are inside your profile (see the Profile Folder), in the Mail and (if you use IMAP) ImapMail folders. Each mail folder (Inbox, Sent, etc.) is stored as two files — one with no extension (e.g. INBOX), which is the mail file itself (in "mbox" format), and one with an .msf extension (e.g. INBOX.msf), which is the index (Mail Summary File) to the mail file. Tell the other program to import mail from the file with no extension.

Just copy the Thunderbird mail files and rename them with a .mbx extension and place them in your Eudora Data folder. On WinY2K and XP systems the default location is the C:\\Documents and settings/Your User name/application data/Qualcomm/eudora.

There is a report that there may be a problem with attachments. Does anyone know how to solve this?

A user suggests:

1. rename Thunderbird's "Local Folders" to "Local_Folders"
2. in Eudora, file->import->advanced->Netscape, browse to select your Thunderbird prefs.js
3. click OK and the import begins.

The resulting folder structure in Eudora was a bit messed up in that each mailbox appeared under in a folder of exactly the same name. This was simple enough to fix in Eudora with drag and drop, then delete the superflouous folders.

To export the Mozilla Thunderbird Address Book:

Select Tools > Address Book from the menu.
From the Address Book menu select Tools > Export
Choose a location and file name and save as .ldif

Eudora can now import this as a Netscape address book. Just point Eudora to where you have saved it. File Menu > Import > Advanced > Netscape Messenger > Please locate your LDIF file > Browse

To import mailboxes from Pocomail:

Here they wrote:

The export mailbox function can be accessed from PocoMail Menu - File, Export, Mailbox. You can select from Netscape, Eudora or RFC 822 formats. Many programs support one or both of these formats for importing information, so hopefully, these will meet your export/import needs.

Just point Pocomail to export it's mail files in the Eudora format to your Eudora Data folder.

On WinY2K and XP systems the default location is the C:\\Documents and settings/Your User name/application data/Qualcomm/eudora.

If you are using win3.X, Win9X, ME etc. it is normally the Eudora Program folder C:\\Program Files/Eudora Mail or some such.

Exporting Address Books is done by selecting Export from the same PocoMail Menu. You can export to CSV, LDIF and HTML formats. All the same recommendations mentioned in relation to importing information apply as well to exporting information.
Export in LDIF format. Eudora can now import this as a Netscape address book. Just point Eudora to where you have saved it. File Menu > Import > Advanced > Netscape Messenger > Please locate your LDIF file > Browse
