Default One Password For Multiple Email Accounts

Hello,

I have multiple persona set up, one each for separate email accounts at the same email server. Everytime I log in I need to enter each password for each email account, and I prefer not to have the passwords remembered on my computer for automatic login since Eudora itself is not password protected.

It would be very helpful to have a single password option for Eudora activation or email access that unlocks all stored individual account passwords when downloading email. I believe that there exist Internet services that do a similar thing for different passwords on different websites.

Thank you,

DH

Default Yes and No

"Classic" Eudora (through versions 6 and 7)
is undergoing no further development.

A version of Thunderbird is being developed to add some features
that Eudora possessed but Thunderbird lacked;
see the "Penelope" section of these forums for details.

Thunderbird does have the feature which you want, under
"Options" | "Privacy" | "Passwords"

So "Eudora 8" (made from Thunderbird, not from original Eudora)
might have the same feature, but note its current "beta" status.

Belated thank you for the detailed reply, this is great news. I have been reluctant to let go of my paid for Eudora 7.1, however I now have a compelling reason to try the new version.

Default Or use a "password safe"

Another idea is to use a separate "lock box" to store all your passwords,
which is much more general than looking for a feature
in every separate program, or web browser, or operating system, etc.

Here is one:

Default What about securing already stored mail?

Modern Windows and Mac operating systems, however,
enable the creation of password-protected login accounts,
with "Application data" (such as Eudora's mail and settings,
if stored where recommended), accessible to only the account owner.

Note that when you tell a local email program
to ask for the email server(s)' password(s) in every new session,
you are only keeping prying eyes from downloading new mail from the server
(or possibly also from sending mail, if login is required even to send),
but if someone can open your local mail storage anyway,
they still have access to all mail that you have already stored locally!

There are thus multiple levels of security to consider.

A "password safe" (previously mentioned) is one way to guard passwords,
but a password protected login account is needed
if you want to guard data that you already have on a computer,
and in so doing, it may also guard any passwords it contains
to fetch or send more email.
