Just as an update to this problem, I have noticed that recent messages from hotmail senders have tidy headers and the problem is not apparent, so that may indicate that a fix is in the field.
However, I did get a recent email from a friend using a hotmail account via an ISP based in China, where not only were the headers corrupted as per the symptoms outlined here and in other threads, but the body of the message was a bunch of gobbledygook like this short sample of it: DQpIaSBHcmFlbWUsDQoNCiANCg0KdGhhbmsgeW91IHRoZW5+fg 0KDQpkZWZpbml0ZWx5IGkgd2ls bCBnbyB0byB0b2FzdGVkbWFzdGVyIG5leHQgd2Vla35+fm9mIG NvdXNlLCBpIGhvcGUgeW91IGNh So, not even the text of the message is being displayed. I don't know if that's a different problem, or just another manifestation of the problem under discussion. |

The "gobbledygook" is readily decipherable "base64" encoded text
("Hi G_____, thank you then...") Yes, it is "just another manifestation of the problem under discussion" (the invalid headers derail all message "decoding," not only the "Quoted-Printable" part, but also any "base64" part) Perhaps it just takes longer for Hotmail's fix to reach China (perhaps their Hotmail is behind a Great Wall :) |
