I am using Eudora 6.2 on Mac OS X 10.3.6. My ISP is Earthlink. Everything is running perfectly except I can not see the attachments from one friend. I have never been able to see attachments that my friend has sent. He is using a Windows XP computer with Office XP Pro (MS Exchange 6) at a Fortune 500 company.
A good example of the problem is: He received a photo attached to an e-mail message today. He forwarded that message with attachment to over 20 people. All of them could see the photo except me. I asked him to save the photo to his desktop and resend it to me attached to a new e-mail message. I still can not see the attachment in any way. With full headers turned on, Eudora displays the following for the "new e-mail" message: Return-Path: <Howard.Green@bigcompany.com> Received: from SATLRCCDLCN02. bigcompany.rl.bigcompany.com ([205.174.22.21]) by augustus.mspring.net (Earthlink Mail Service) with ESMTP id 1czU9Ihp3Nl5sN0 for <lists@strickland.com>; Thu, 2 Dec 2004 11:50:10 -0500 (EST) Received: from satladmdlmb08.bigcompany.rl.bigcompany.com ([10.64.219.100]) by SATLRCCDLCN02.bigcompany.rl.bigcompany.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.5329); Thu, 2 Dec 2004 11:49:05 -0500 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.0.6487.1 content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----_=_NextPart_001_01C4D88E.D5276295" Subject: New Email Date: Thu, 2 Dec 2004 11:49:04 -0500 Message-ID: <CE5FC4E811F1424792D02B5145A1965A465A8F@satladmdlm b08.bigcompany.rl.bigcompany.com> X-MS-Has-Attach: yes X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: <CE5FC4E811F1424792D02B5145A1965A465A8F@satladmdlm b08.bigcompany.rl.bigcompany.com> Thread-Topic: New Email Thread-Index: AcTYjtLl1UCD3bDQTySOWwulGIaScg== From: "Green, Howard" <Howard.Green@bigcompany.com> To: "Mitch Strickland" <lists@strickland.com> X-OriginalArrivalTime: 02 Dec 2004 16:49:05.0121 (UTC) FILETIME=[D5724D10:01C4D88E] As you can see there is no hint of an attachment except for the line, "X-MS-Has-Attach: yes." There are no attachments in my Attachments Folder, etc. I have also turned on logging with a very large (1GB) buffer. The log appears to show the message being received with an attachment. yet the attachment never appears in Eudora. The following is the top and bottom of the log when I received the "new e-mail" message again. I have edited most of the attachment file out. The problem is this: 26010624 32:0.1.8 Rcvd: –Content-Type: application/ms-tnef;\r\n” 26010624 32:0.1.8 Rcvd: –\tname="winmail.dat"\r\n” Your friend has his copy of Outlook set to send messages using Microsoft's proprietary 'tnef' format, which, since it is useless to you in Eudora is deleted by default. You can get Info on the Eudora application in the Finder and under the 'Plug-Ins' section, UNcheck the 'Discard ms-tnef files' option. Now you will be able to see the winmail.dat file, but since it is proprietary Microsoft c#$p it will be of little use to you. There is an application out there called TNEf's Enough which will help you read them. See: http://www.joshjacob.com/macdev/tnef/ The best bet would be for your friend to set his copy of Outlook to use an Internet standard for sending attachments instead of the proprietary MS format. Regards, Matt |

Thanks you for your help.
I found the instructions for changing Outlook to not send TNEF messages on Microsoft's support site. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;830302 Mitch |
